Last week, we launched the book in Cork and Dublin. Dr. Barry Monahan, lecturer in film and related subjects, did the honours in Cork with an excellent speech in which he spotted how my writing was almost cinemagraphic in its quality. Found this most interesting, as I was conscious that I was seeing everything visually as I wrote. A talented Italian pianist provided a musical backdrop to the proceedings.
In Dublin, the venue was the Maldron Hotel, Cardiff Lane, where the manager Conor O'Kane and his staff excelled themselves in providing for our every need. Soon to be eighty-years-of age Dr. John McGurk, biographer and retired professor of history at Liverpool University, launched the book with a splendid, wide-ranging speech. He had travelled to Dublin from his home in Co. Mayo, that same day. I extend sincere thanks to Maurice Regan for collecting John at the railway station and for providing him with overnight accommodation. The Dalata Hotel Group generously sponsored the event. Having experienced the service there, I can recommend the Maldron Hotel, Cardiff Lane, Dublin for your stay in that City.
Amongst those present were our faithful friends David and Susan Hedigan and CBS Ireland representative and distinguished journalist Mary Finnegan. The presence of Dr. Anne O'Connor, a native of Enniscrone, where I spent my youth and early manhood, lent a nostalgic air to the night.
Lastly, I would never have been able to hold those events without the help of my family. My children, Katherine, Vicky and Martin were essential to me during that week. Louise, my wife, was always there to do whatever she was asked to contribute to the whole proceedings.
The book is available on kindle in the USA. Distribution to the shops in Ireland is very patchy, to say the least. Hopefully, that will improve during the coming week.
Remember Christmas is coming and "No Love Here - a Priest's Journey" will make an ideal present for aunties and uncles, or even ones parents.
